Administration Staff

Receptionists, Clerical Officers And Secretary

Our reception team is there to help you and will ensure the smooth running of the practice, whilst at the same time helping patients with their enquiries and problems. They have a difficult job to do and are trained to obtain appropriate information from you whilst maintaining confidentiality.

The clerical team will help you with bookings for the many clinics provided by the practice. Our medical secretary is responsible for all hospital referrals and doctors' letters.

Nursing Team

Nurse Practitioner

Our nurse practitioner is highly trained and offers appointments to deal with minor illnesses and some minor surgery cases. This leaves the doctors more time to deal with more complicated cases. For example, you can see the nurse practitioner for coughs, colds and flu, chest infections, asthma attacks, diabetes, tonsillitis, earache, sore throats, eye infections, skin disorders, childhood illnesses, advice on healthy lifestyle, well woman/man issues, health education, family planning, young people’s friendly services and advice on medication.

Practice Nurses

* Travel advice and immunisations - we are a registered Yellow Fever vaccination Centre

Healthcare Assistants

The healthcare assistants provide the following services:

District Nurses

The district nursing service provides skilled and professional nursing care to people who are confined to their homes.

Referrals to the service can only be made by your GP or a hospital department. Care will be tailored by the nurses to meet your individual needs.

Midwives

Midwives from Burnley General Hospital provide care for our Nelson patients at the Family Tree Centre, Railway Street, Nelson and care for our Barrowford patients at our Barrowford surgery.

Airedale Hospital midwives provide care for our patients at Walton Lane Children's Centre.
Mothers-to-be are given many choices relating to their care during pregnancy:

Dietician

Our dietician holds weekly clinics, usually on a Wednesday morning at the Yarnspinners surgery. She assesses and advises people of any age on issues relating to food, in connection with the following:
• Diabetes
• Overweight
• Underweight
• High cholesterol
Patients are usually referred by a doctor or nurse in the practice (ask about this at reception).
NB: All members of the primary health care team will happily give advice or treatment on the full range of expertise relevant to their profession.

Training Doctors And Other Health Professionals

The practice is a designated training practice. This involves training doctors, nurses, medical students and a variety of other health professionals. They may be sitting in with one of our doctors or nurses during your consultation. You will be asked if you consent to this - please inform us if you would prefer them not to be present. Training also involves videoing consultations to improve various skills. You will be asked to sign a consent form if you agreed to be videoed. Please note these videos are strictly for training purposes only.
