Receptionists, Clerical Officers And Secretary
Our reception team is there to help you. They do their best to ensure the smooth running of the practice, whilst at the same time helping patients with their enquiries and problems. They have a difficult job to do and are trained to obtain appropriate information from you whilst maintaining confidentiality. Please be patient with them.
The clerical team will help you with bookings for the many clinics provided by the practice. Our medical secretary is responsible for all hospital referrals and doctors' letters.
Nursing Team
Nurse Practitioner
Our nurse practitioners are highly trained and offer appointments to deal with minor illnesses. This leaves the doctors more time to deal with more complicated cases. For example, you can see the nurse practitioner for coughs, colds and flu, chest infections, asthma attacks, diabetes, tonsillitis, earache, sore throats, eye infections, skin disorders, childhood illnesses, advice on healthy lifestyle, well woman/man issues, health education, family planning, young people’s friendly services and advice on medication.
Practice Nurses
The practice nurses provide a full range of services. They can be seen by appointment for the following:
* Heart and blood pressure clinics
* Asthma care
* Diabetes care
* Travel advice and immunisations - we are a registered Yellow Fever vaccination Centre
* Family planning
* New patient checks
* Well woman clinic
* Well man clinic
Health Visitors
Our team of health visitors work within the practice setting to help individuals, the family and the community.
They hold regular sessions at the surgery covering:
* Child development and behaviour
* Childhood immunisations
* Public health
District Nurses
The district nursing service provides skilled and professional nursing care to people who are confined to their homes.
Referrals to the service can only be made by your GP or a hospital department. Care will be tailored by the nurses to meet your individual needs.
Midwives
Midwives from Burnley General Hospital provide care for our Nelson patients at the Family Tree Centre, Railway Street, Nelson and care for our Barrowford patients at our Barrowford surgery.
Airedale Hospital midwives provide care for our patients at Walton Lane Children's Centre.
Mothers-to-be are given many choices relating to their care during pregnancy:
* Type of care (midwife/shared/consultant)
* Place of delivery
* Pain relief
* Many others, including screening
Dietician
Our dietician holds weekly clinics to help with, and advise on, the following:
* Anorexia
* Diabetes
* Eating disorders
NB: All members of the primary health care team will happily give advice or treatment on the full range of expertise relevant to their profession.
Training Doctors And Other Health Professionals
The practice is a designated training practice. This involves training doctors, nurses, medical students and a variety of other health professionals. They may be sitting in with one of our doctors or nurses during your consultation. You will be asked if you consent to this - please inform us if you would prefer them not to be present. Training also involves videoing consultations to improve various skills. You would be asked to sign a consent form if you agreed to be videoed. Please note these videos are strictly for training purposes only.
